Frequently Asked Questions
How are you addressing COVID-19?
Due to the unique nature of the world around us with the pandemic, our preschool will be offering classes online. We follow the guidelines given by the CDC. To keep our students and families healthy and safe, all supplies and materials are quarantined then shipped to their destinations. Donations and any items that are meant to be shared between students will be treated in the same manner with strict instructions for families to follow.
Can my child still enroll if we don't live locally?
Yes! We offer our online classes to young children who live anywhere in the West Coast under Pacific Standard Time. These states include: California, Oregon, and Washington.
I'm not technical. Will you show me how to login?
Yes. We have a video put together to walk you through each step of the way. It's easy!
Do parents have to buy any art materials?
No. Little Fish Preschool provides a set school supply list for each student which is sent out a few weeks before school begins. All activities, worksheets, and sensory play items are provided to each student throughout the school year. Look at our school supply list to see what will be provided click here.
Is this an online "learning" video game website?
No. There is NO video game component to our online preschool program...just real, social interaction between a preschool teacher (that's ME!) and a small class of amazing preschool friends.
Do I have to pay extra for the shipping of my child's monthly supply/curriculum packages to my home?
No. The shipping is deducted out of the monthly tuition.
How will I know if my child is on the right track for kindergarten readiness?
During the middle of the school year there will be a parent/teacher conference week where each parent will have the opportunity to discuss with their child's teacher virtually the progress in which their child has made. This conference is key in finding out where your child is at developmentally and academically to encourage the success of kindergarten readiness.
What if my child is shy, active, loud, won't sit for long, etc.?
First of all, young children aren't meant to sit for long. Therefore, we sit, stand, sit, stand, then sit and stand to keep our students engaged in learning. Each child is unique, our teacher has 9+ years teaching specifically preschool age children and has seen just about every type of child there is. She is excited to teach your child and help him or her have a wonderful preschool experience filled with friends, fun, and God's love! If you have any concerns about this, please contact us, we're happy to help!
Is your school only for Christian or Bible-believing families?
No. We accept students from families of any religions. As long as you understand, acknowledge, and accept that your child will be taught curriculum that is firmly founded on the Bible; the Word of God. Please read our curriculum page for more details click here and our beliefs click here
Is there a way to connect with preschool parents in my child's online preschool class?
Absolutely! After enrolling and when the school year starts, we will provide a private Facebook group for our preschool families. We are super supportive and excited to have you join us!
How old does my child need to be to attend?
We teach children ages 3-5 years old. Your child must turn 3 or 4 years old by September 1st to attend our online preschool.
What platform do you use for the LIVE class sessions?
We use Zoom, a free platform. The links we use to join our online classroom are exclusive to our preschool families so no one else can access the online classroom. Plus, our online classroom is monitored by our teacher at all times when in use.
Do parents have to be present while classes are going on?
No. However, you do need to log your child into the online classroom at the start of each class. At this point you can either stay or do other things you need to do. Once your child gets more familiar with our online class, it is encouraged parents are not present so children can learn to become independent.
Do parents have to print things off or set things up for the online preschool class?
All the sensory activities, worksheets, and craft supplies will be sent to students each month for the upcoming month in the mail. Teacher will provide families a calendar that specifies which supplies and activities will need to be set up and provided ahead of time for each school day.
What requirements do I need to participate?
You will need internet and a laptop or desktop computer. You can use an iPad or a phone but we don't recommend it because its too hard to see everyone's faces and actually socialize with them.
Do you offer a sibling discount?
Absolutely! We offer a 25% off discount from the monthly tuition. Instead of paying $145 monthly tuition for your second child, you would pay a total of $109 so your child can enjoy and attend online preschool with his/her sibling.
What if my child misses a school day?
We've got you covered! Every class session is recorded so if your child misses a day of school, he or she can always watch it later just let us know at least an hour before class.
Do parents need to send anything back to the teacher in the mail?
During our Valentine's Day and Easter party all students will be given the opportunity to send their classmates a valentine and Easter Eggs. The teacher will inform parents to send these goodies very early to be quarantined then shipped out to the appropriate students before the party. Additionally, every month the teacher will assign the students a special craft to be hung on the classroom bulletin board. This board will be displayed behind the teacher during classroom time where children can see and sense they are part of a community with their other classmates. The teacher will provide families stamped envelopes to send completed crafts back to the school.
What's the difference between your online preschool and Hooked on Phonics or ABC Mouse?
The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that preschoolers have no more than 1 hour of screen time. Would you prefer your child used that hour on high-intensity video games or on face-to-face social interactions to prepare your child in EVERY WAY to develop: socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively, linguistically, and spiritually? I believe preschool is a hands-on experience, and playing video games to "learn" isn't how we do things in online preschool.
Is there a way I can help/donate to my child's class as a parent?
Yes! Just like an in-person preschool, there are opportunities for parents to help/donate to their child's online class. There will be times where families will have the opportunity to donate to their child's class during special events such as stickers for Christmas time or plastic Easter eggs for Easter. These items will be sent to our mailing address and under quarantine until shipped to the students in their monthly supply box. Even though donations and helping out are appreciated they are not required.
